Darkness, darkness, this wasn’t darkness. I know what darkness is, I’ve been there, I’ve seen it. It was my damn home.

This was something else completely. Or that’s what I thought at least. I thought it was different. It wasn’t like all the other times, like all the other rock bottoms I had hit.

These were shadows. Shadows that were haunting me, chasing me, never letting me out of their sight. And I tried to fight them, tried to run away and hide as long as I could, but then, at some point, I just couldn’t flee anymore. So I turned around and faced the shadows.

And I welcomed them with open arms, as they greeted me like an old friend, because in the end, it turns out that they were. It turns out that they were in fact my all too familiar, good old darkness after all.
